SBfamilies.com will host a uniform swap day from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 12, at the Gymboree, 5800 Line Ave., in the Uptown Shopping Center.

According to Allison Cate of SBfamilies.com, this is the first event of its kind in the area.

Parents should bring outgrown school uniforms to swap with other parents for bigger ones. It is free for anyone to participate with uniforms from all public and private Caddo/Bossier schools (pre-K through eighth grades).

"It is a great way for parents to save some money on school uniforms," Cate said. "The more participants, the more uniforms parents have to pick and choose from."

  • Parents must abide by the following rules to participate in the swap:

Parents can enter complete uniforms and/or single uniform items such as shirts, shorts and jackets to swap. Please place any ties or other accessories in a zip-lock bag taped to the uniform. Uniforms from all elementary and middle Bossier and Caddo Parish schools (public and private) will be accepted (pre-K-eighth grade).

Drop off uniforms from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 11 at Gymboree Play & Music in good condition, cleaned, pressed (if needed) and on a hanger or they will not be accepted. Please remove any personalized tags from uniforms. If parents want to participate but can't make the drop-off, please e-mail Cate at allison@sbfamilies.com or call her at 518-8419 to make arrangements.

Parents will receive a voucher for each uniform entered into the SWAP. These will be required to take home uniforms from the SWAP.

The uniforms and sizes available will depend on participants. Nothing is guaranteed. If parents cannot find replacements for their children's uniforms, they will be considered a generous donation. If parents do not wish to donate the uniforms, they may reclaim them at 3 p.m.

All remaining uniforms will be donated to needy families.

• If parents don't have uniforms to swap, they can pay $2 per item from 3:30-

4 p.m. (after exchanges are complete). Money will be donated to a local charity to help offset school costs for needy families.
