MIGHTY COURAGE:

Is it just routine for Kids & Parents???

In our recent contest for Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh show tickets, many of you submitted wonderful  COURAGEOUS STORIES about your children. Reading them reminded me just how courageous our children are daily. Their exhibiting courage is not heroic, rather a way of life. They must brave the world and exposure to the unknown all the time.

Mark Twain has said, "Courage is not the absence of fear. It is acting in spite of it." The sign of a courageous person, then, is someone who is feels fear, recognizes fear and still goes on to do what he or she believes is right.

Don't we all do this, especially parents? Though we don't notice it, a lot of courage is part of our own routine parenting. The mom who sends her child to a new school or daycare shows courage. The grandmother who resists the temptation to lavish goodies on her grandchildren shows courage. And, the father and mother who stand firm in their discipline (or punishment) show courage.

I guess the real test of courage is in our daily lives, or should be. Remember not only to think of courage in terms of grand deeds but also as being a part of our daily lives, for kids and parents alike.

Braving my Thursday...

MVP DAD: Andy Old

(Site Photos) andyoldashtyn.jpgMy husband's name is Andy Old and I think he is a great husband and an awesome father! He always knows how to make Ashtyn, our 10-month-old baby boy, grin and giggle. But the reason I think he's such a great dad is because of his devotion to Ashtyn (and me, as Ashtyn's mother). He is a very hard worker, and even though times have been tough, he always makes sure we are taken care of. He works full-time and attends online classes averaging 15 hours a semester. He faithfully gets up with the baby in the early morning, gets him ready, and takes him to daycare so that I can have my mornings for myself. I try to praise him often but he never really acknowledges it - he says he's just being a husband and father and doesn't deserve any praise for it. He has the "my work is never done" attitude and I admire him so much for that. His silly jokes, love for his family, big brown eyes, and never-give-up attitude make me think he's really great, and I would love for someone else to recognize him for what a great guy he truly is.
